Step-back Training for your school setting

How can your school/setting access the resources and training required to implement the Step-back Approach?


Registered Step-back Trainers from your local authority/region are available to deliver training for your educational settings. Step-back Trainers are trained to provide raising awareness sessions about Step-back for the whole setting and deliver the Step-back Practitioner Course.

Step-back Train the Trainer course

The Step-back Trainer course is specifically for ALNCOs/ Specialist Teachers of ALN. As part of a regional/local authority Step-back model of delivery, a small group of senior ALN practitioners from a broad range of settings become accredited Step-back trainers entitling them to deliver the Step-back Practitioner’s course to staff from settings within their local authority/cluster. Registration for Step-back Trainers is with Positive Eye Ltd and is renewable bi-annually. Step-back is owned by Positive Eye Ltd.


Step-back Trainer Certificate of Recognition and Registration

The course is internally assessed by Positive Eye Ltd. On successful completion of the course, Step-back Trainers  will be registered with Positive Eye Ltd and receive a Certificate of Recognition, entitling them to deliver the Step-back Practitioner’s course

Costs of courses


Step-back Schools Status

As part of the school’s participation in Step-back they will be expected to reach and maintain a set of Step-back school standards. Once achieved maintenance of this award is renewed every three years
